Tang Ziwei, born in Jingjiang, Jiangsu in 1942, is a renowned contemporary calligrapher who has garnered a series of prestigious honors such as "National Senior Calligrapher", "Chinese State Guest Artist", "Chinese Calligraphy Senior Inheritor", and "Chinese Calligraphy Intangible Cultural Heritage Inheritor". These honors, like shining stars, adorn his illustrious path in calligraphy art, highlighting his profound attainments and preeminent status in the field of calligraphy.

Tang Ziwei's calligraphy works exhibit a round and powerful brushwork, with graceful turns resembling a ring. The writing is unrestrained and smooth, flowing seamlessly, akin to a nimble dragon weaving through the sea of clouds, or an exuberant dancer unleashing passion on stage. It can be described as a perfect interpretation of classical romanticism in the realm of calligraphy, exerting a profound and extensive influence on the calligraphy community. In his creation, Tang Ziwei extensively draws on the strengths of various schools, fully inheriting traditional culture while boldly innovating, thus shaping a unique artistic style.

Tang Ziwei has always adhered to the life creed of "working conscientiously and being candid", and has integrated it into every brushstroke of his calligraphy creation. Mr. Tang Ziwei's calligraphy is exceptional. His works are vigorous, vast, and majestic, embodying the harmony of thought and spirit and possessing a classic abstract ink and wash style. Based on his rich life experience and profound academic cultivation, he has resolutely broken through the heavy constraints of past imitation and rules with his consummate ink and wash skills. He creates scenes with his heart, and his hand moves with his heart, relying solely on divine inspiration rather than visual perception when writing calligraphy, which demonstrates his extraordinary artistic skill and achievement. In terms of brushwork, he has reached an astonishing level, with his calligraphy being layered, profound, and majestic, shocking the world. This remarkable characteristic has elevated Chinese calligraphy to a supreme realm.

When appreciating the works of Mr. Tang Ziwei from the perspective of the calligraphy aesthetic standards of "spirit, qi, bone, blood, and flesh", one can better perceive the unique charm of his calligraphy. The "spirit" of his calligraphy is like the twinkling stars in the night sky, illuminating the soul of the works and embodying a unique charm and spiritual temperament, making the viewer feel as if they could transcend time and space and connect with him in the moment of creation. "Qi" is like a ceaselessly flowing river, circulating and surging in the works, unrestrained and smooth yet steady, naturally and freely flowing like clouds and water, making one immersed in it. "Bone" is like a hard rock, exhibiting the vigorous and powerful lines of calligraphy, penetrating deeply with every stroke, providing a solid backbone for the works. "Blood" is like the fresh liquid of life, endowing the works with a vivid rhythm and pace, with ups and downs, tension and relaxation, making calligraphy no longer a cold text but a vibrant artistic life form. "Flesh" refers to the fullness and roundness of the brush and ink, adding a soft beauty to the rigid lines, making the works more vivid and gentle amidst their firmness.

Tang Ziwei is extremely restrained in the use of color in his calligraphy creation, rarely applying color. He deeply understands the philosophy embodied in black and white, which represent one void and one solid, one dynamic and one static, interdependent and complementary, yet opposite and contrasting. This is a profound embodiment of traditional Chinese culture. When we appreciate Mr. Tang Ziwei's calligraphy works, we feel as if we are in a fresh and elegant utopia, with a fresh and elegant atmosphere sweeping over us. His works have a pure and vigorous aura, exuding a sense of freedom and detachment. He pursues the charm of ink and brushwork, with a pure style that combines the beauty of vast mist and haze, freshness and elegance, as well as a profound insight that reaches straight to the heart. The contours and lines in his works are sharp and distinct, with a soft yet firm touch, and the ink application in the fine details is subtle. The lines resemble scattered trees, with branches like dragon claws, clouds and mist changing, and color and ink blending, embodying rich compositional awareness and vivid taste. His works are simple, vigorous, rough, unrestrained, and full of emotion.

For Mr. Tang Ziwei, calligraphy is his lifelong unwavering passion and pursuit. It is precisely this persistence that has made his life a bit more bumpy than that of ordinary people, but at the same time, it has added a unique charm. As the saying goes, "All other pursuits are of low rank, only the study of literature is of high rank." Calligrapher Tang Ziwei appears like a flying immortal on the outside, elegant and free-spirited, but on the inside, he is like a tough guy, with a strong and unyielding spirit. With every stroke of his brush, he writes out a lasting charm of personality. He is willing to persevere in solitude, relying on his innate love for calligraphy and his infatuated devotion, taking one step at a time towards the sacred hall of calligraphy art.

Tang Ziwei's calligraphy works shone among numerous important works. His excellent works were included in "A Pacesetter of His Generation", compiled by the Art Talent Center of the Ministry of Culture and published by the Central Literature Publishing House. His calligraphic style was also showcased in "Beautiful China", jointly edited by the Ministry of Culture, the China Calligraphers Association, and the China Artists Association, and exhibited in France during the China-France Cultural Exchange Year.

Mr. Shen Peng, a master of calligraphy, once gave such a precise comment: "Zhiwei's works directly incorporate the natural world into his calligraphy, which is elegant yet steady, vigorous yet gentle, vivid yet profound, and grand yet dignified. This comment is undoubtedly a high recognition and praise for Tang Zhiwei's achievements in calligraphy art.".
